improv tips
post cool tips/ideas that are useful while improvising.
2 string rule - start on the low E string, play any pattern envolving the E and A strings. Repeat the pattern starting an octave above, but start on the D string. Then play the pattern once more starting on the B string.... now starting 2 octaves above. This is a great way to get around the fretboard, plus since youre repeating octaves you dont have to worry about being in key.
If everyone posted some cool ideas they use it could be a pretty helpful thread.

Learn exercises that cover all sorts of scales.
Go to this site, too: http://www.good-ear.com/servlet/Ear...r?chap=3&menu=0 (I got to 100 and got 68 correct of random selections)
Start with pentatonic scale, then learn other scales. Also, learn how to make the pentatonic scale sound different than it usually does.
Practice all that. PRACTICE. There is no "secret" just practice a whole lot!(that means for many many hours!!)
listen to good guitarists for ideas. esp. Vai
